Bandi Sanjay Praises New VB-G Ram Ji Employment Guarantee Scheme
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday praised the Centre’s new VB-G Ram Ji Employment Guarantee Scheme, calling it a major step toward creating permanent assets in villages and supporting farmers.
Speaking to the media at a press conference, he said the scheme guarantees 125 days of work per year for every individual. If work is not provided on time, beneficiaries will receive an unemployment allowance with interest. Unlike earlier schemes that focused mainly on manual labour, the new programme will prioritise the creation of long-lasting rural infrastructure, he added.
Bandi Sanjay said states will be allowed to suspend the scheme for up to 60 days during peak farming seasons to avoid labour shortages for farmers. He explained that workers can complete 125 days under the scheme and earn an additional 60 to 80 days through agricultural work, providing up to 200 days of employment annually. He also noted that Telangana will receive ₹340 crore more this year under the scheme compared to last year.
Responding to criticism over renaming the employment programme, the minister referred to name changes made by previous governments and accused the Congress of politicising Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy. He also announced that ₹50 crore has been approved for Karimnagar Municipal Corporation under the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF), with ₹40 crore to be contributed by the Centre.
He said the city is benefiting from central government initiatives such as Smart Cities Mission, Swachh Bharat, and AMRUT. Expressing confidence ahead of the upcoming municipal elections, Bandi Sanjay said the BJP will emerge victorious. While many leaders from different parties are keen to join the BJP, he added that ticket preference will be given to long-time party workers with a clean record.
