UP Government Eases RTE Admissions, Child’s Aadhaar Card No Longer Required
Lucknow: To make admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act easier for children from economically weaker sections, the Uttar Pradesh government has removed the mandatory requirement of Aadhaar cards for both the child and the parents.
Now, only one parent’s Aadhaar card will be required to fill the online application form for RTE admissions.
Issuing fresh guidelines, Parthasarathi Sen Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary for Basic and Secondary Education, said that under RTE, financial assistance will be provided only to bank accounts linked with the parent’s Aadhaar card, which must be mentioned at the time of applying for admission.
“We are trying to make life easier for people, especially families from genuinely underprivileged backgrounds, in keeping with the spirit of the RTE Act,” Sharma said.
According to orders issued to all District Magistrates (DMs)—who are also chairpersons of the District Education Project Committee (DEPC)—the district-wise annual admission target under Section 12(1)(c) of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 will be fixed at 25% of the total intake capacity of the entry-level class (Class 1 or pre-primary) in all unaided private schools operating in the district.
The order also clearly defines age criteria for admissions:
- Children aged 3 to under 4 years will be admitted to Nursery
- 4 to 5 years to LKG
- 5 to 6 years to UKG
- 6 to 7 years to Class 1
All document verification will be conducted at the Block Education Officer (BEO) and Basic Education Officer (BSA) levels.
For applications approved by the DM/CDO, school allotment will be carried out on a fixed date through an online lottery system. The lottery process will take place in two stages.
- In the first stage, verified and approved applications will be randomly shuffled online and assigned a lottery number.
- In the second stage, school allotment will be done in batches of 100 applicants, based on their preferences and in ascending order of lottery numbers.
The final allotment list will be approved by the District Magistrate.
